Alright, let’s yap publicly a bit, shall we?
So, today I did the thing - wrote a public comment under a public Facebook post and shared a public opinion. Oh boy.
What followed was a full-on shitstorm. The kind where you just sit there wondering: Are they actually this dumb, or is it bait? I legit can't tell anymore. The internet has melted my ragebait radar.
All I said was:
“Ah, that’s exactly what I hate about capitalism. You pay for a service and the quality is utter trash, so you still have to do it yourself if you want it done right.”
And what did I get?
Well, apparently I learned a lot about myself! Didn't know I was a hardcore socialist until today. Cool. Didn’t get the memo. Seems like I accidentally ragebaited without even trying. Or maybe I didn’t? I don’t even know anymore.
Which brings me to the thing that just grinds my gears. And I see it so damn often it’s lost all comedic value.
You criticize something even slightly related to a topic someone personally connects with - and boom, you're suddenly the enemy of their entire worldview. It’s like:
- You like dogs? Then you must hate cats.
- You dislike ice cream? Guess you’re pro-dictatorship now.
- You don’t like your boss? Wow, you must love the janitor.
It's not logic. It's not even stereotypes.
Stereotypes at least come from some level of shared experience, twisted as they are. Like, “blondes are dumb” comes from enough people being loud about dumb blonde experiences - not because most blondes are dumb, but because it feels that way to them. Still flawed, but there’s some pattern recognition going on.
This other thing? It’s just personal projection.
It’s when someone can’t separate a topic from their ego, and suddenly you’re under attack for not agreeing with them - even if it has nothing to do with them directly. Instead of asking, “What do you mean?” or “Can you explain more?”, they go full mudslinger mode.
And that’s just... pathetic.
Just because someone says gold isn’t 100% pure doesn’t mean they’re calling it shit.
Stop making up context that was never said. It’s dumb.
And the worst part? I’d like to say it looks dumb - but it doesn’t matter. People don’t care. They don’t see it. Logic doesn’t even scratch the surface. They groupthink their way through a conversation like it’s a mob chant.
Anyway - yap complete.
Thanks for joining my TED Talk.
I’ll be back to yap more. Probably soon.
